The Oikos of Water: Aristotle and Water
The small harbor above serves the ancient city Assos, Turkey. In about 347 BCE Aristotle established the Academy of Assos, focusing especially on biology.
Aristotle used the Greek word oikos to mean home, in a very broad way, including people, house, and property. We now use oikos as the root word of both economics and ecology. Earth, the water planet, is our home, our oikos. And water is its life blood.
